mobile garden

Well, it turns out that the spot we picked for the garden didn't sit well with the University. In keeping with the ongoing title for the collaboration of this part of the project--cultivate/migrate--we have transplanted the garden into three wagons. This way, we can take the garden anywhere we want to--it migrates. It likely will go on tour this summer around Iowa City and surrounding areas. I hope to continue the project into the following year.

There is a possibility that those whose plants never came up or otherwise didn't make it will be reincarnated as vegetables for the vegetable garden wagon. Look for your number tag there!

The Garden

The garden has been planted! It officially opened yesterday, May 5. There are three beds holding all of the flowers. All of the flowers are marked with their tags containing their plant numbers. If you make it up to the garden, be sure to locate your plant. Hopefully by the end of summer we'll have a flower garden in full bloom.

Day 26

The last photos of the plants before they get planted on Saturday are up! Most of them are thriving...The poppies seem to be having a little trouble. Those whose plants either died or never came up, will get some new seeds put into the ground when the plants get put in their permanent home. The plants will all be marked with their tags so everyone can identify theirs.

The location of the garden has been decided. The plants will live in a new garden and path being put in on the corner of Riverside Drive and River Street here in Iowa City. The garden is located between the new art building and the Graduate Painting Studios. It will be presented on Saturday evening, May 5.
